Robert Biebel of the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) outlined the current issues with both shallow and deep-water aquifers that supply water to communities west of the subcontinental divide. Future planning includes consideration for protection of surface areas where water percolates to recharge the aquifers, and use of the aquifers with reduced impact to surface waters, like lakes, streams and marshes. McKinley Elementary School at 2435 N. 89 St. would be replaced with a new building on the school's existing property as proposed in the Wauwatosa School District's $124.9 million referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot. Built in 1929, the buildings three floors and basement are not handicap accessible, lacks adaptable space, requires replace of the building's boilers and HVAC system, and main entrance is not secure. Two elementary schools would be replaced, and two would receive major additions, reconfiguration and renovation.
